Where is my leak?

First of all I want to thank all of you for getting the pool clear and warm. I have learned a lot but now I have some issues that don't seem to make sense, hydrodynamically.
I have been noticing increasing water loss over the last month, up to about 1.5 inches per day. I was running the pump 24 hours. When I turned the pump off the leak stopped.
But it is an air leak, and the skimmer basket is on tight, and there is no water around the pump/filter complex. The skimmer basket is on the far side of the pool from the pump. There is a concrete border about 4 feet wide, surrounded by dirt and grass. My wife noted a wet area about 8 feet from the basket, seeping from under the concrete, where the suction side pipe would be.
It seems pretty obvious that it is a pipe leak somewhere around there, but isn't it supposed to get worse with the pump off? Should I just start digging?

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

Bummer. Could return lines run in that area? Sometimes return lines are looped all the way around the pool to balance the return flow if you have several returns.

You could try pressure testing your return line and your suction line. Do you have plugs for them?

Leak detection companies can locate leaks too.

Wish you luck.

Take care.
