Where did this CYA come from?

I have been testing my saltwater pool for 3 summers now with the Taylor test kit, and am very lucky to have never had any major problems keeping everything in check. (Knock on wood)

I know the CYA test is the most subjective, but I consistently get readings between 40 and 50, and have never added anything but muriatic acid and occasionally baking soda right after we open for the season. Where does this CYA come from if I’ve never added it?? I never have a problem with chlorine levels and my pool is in full sun all day and early evening. I’m not looking for a problem haha, but I’m just confused how it would be there, or where it came from?

Welcome to TFP! I see you have a salt pool, but CYA doesn't naturally increase on its own and it's not in local water. There must be some form of stabilized product you (or someone else) may have used in the past for a short period of time. Powdered shock, tabs, something?

Ahhh I never thought about powdered shock. I forgot I do put in a couple packs to kick start the season, and occasionally after a large party. It’s so rare I never even thought of it!
