I went to clean filter today and found this piece in the filter near the pump. The longer piece appears to have broken off, the shorter piece looks normal. It has a hole in the end. Pool seems to be running fine. Thanks in advance for you help!

Well, it must have originated between the skimmer and pump basket. And after the skimmer basket. Or, do you have a suction side cleaner that has its own suction port at the pool?

No side cleaner. In floor cleaner uses regular drain and skimmer ports.
That is what I am thinking. With the hole in the end it got me thinking that it may be the end clip from an old skimmer or vacuum pole but it is square shaped. It may have been lurking in the pipes for years? I have been here 5 years and haven't had a square tube skimmer or vacuum.

Maybe too long but looks kinda like the end cap trim piece for stairs on a vinyl lined pool.
