I'm nearing 400# and would really like to find some steps that are comfortable and strong. We tried the A frame ladder, buckled under my weight. We tried a blow molded A frame, buckled under my weight. We now have some stairs that are able to hold me (barely) but they're narrow and uncomfortable to use. Any ideas much appreciated.

I have had these steps in my pool for 7 years now, I never take them out.. They are rated up to 400 pounds, Confer says over 400 pounds.. mine is only 1 side and connects to my deck.. They have the compete system for both sides.. They are a VERY sturdy step and have worked great... :)

I have weights holding mine down but the new system says it uses water in the legs to keep them down..

I have an earlier version of the confer stairs, they flex a little when the temp is warm but they will hold up. you might be better off having some real steps and a small deck platform made for the outside. the confer stairs are spaced more like a ladder than normal stairs so they are still a bit of a climb than a stroll. depending on knee conditions that can matter.

do NOT follow instructions and fill with sand or gravel for the inside set. use external weights - either tie or build a shelf and use removable weights. these steps need deep cleaning occasionally, and if they are full of sand they are REALLY hard to get out of the pool.

Much appreciated, thank you! We'll be decking up to the outside so that ought to solve that. Almost thinking about hanging the deck over the side and putting a dock ladder thing in the pool. Will make liner replacement more difficult down the road but might give me something a bit sturdier.

I hear ya. when I first got my pool and saw the flimsy intex ladder I was in tears. no effing way! at first we ranch-rigged something with scaffolding. hated to spend more on steps than the dang pool cost! had part of an old blow molded step from the 90s that worked and in combo with one set of confers it all worked. eventually I figured out the confer steps on the outside were better and the four step ladder on the inside was easier to clean. little pool probably saved my life. good luck!
