Got my pump and filter running yesterday and my plan was to vacuum it using a leaf catcher along the hose with a skimmer sock over the basket. The pool is filthy and my idea was to avoid having to backwash the sand filter a lot. Turns out I'm having to clean out the skimmer sock very frequently, which takes up a ton of time once I get the hose back in and full of water to start vacuuming again. I don't have a self-contained vacuum.
Should I forget the skimmer sock and just let the filter do it and backwash as needed?
