Hi,

I've been researching and know the upgrade is easy to do by myself, but I am not sure on kit I need. I currently have Aqualink RS PDA PS6. I've attached pictures of the actual unit outside.

See page 13 in https://www.jandy.com/-/media/zodiac/global/downloads/sa/sa6456.pdf

Check what revision number your system is at on the bottom of page 13.

Then see what iAqualink link 2.0 kit is for your system in https://www.jandy.com/-/media/zodiac/global/downloads/sl/sl6458.pdf?force=1

You want the white version...

iQ20-A iAquaLink Kit Includes:
iAquaLink 2.0 Web Connect Device.

iQ20-RS iAquaLink Kit Includes:
iAquaLink 2.0 Web Connect Device.
Main Power Center Board and AquaLink RS Firmware Upgrade.

SELECT THE CORRECT iAQUALINK 2.0 UPGRADE KIT
Use p/n iQ20-A to upgrade these systems:
• AquaLink RS - Rev R & newer
• AquaLink PDA - Rev 6.0 & newer
• AquaLink Z4 - all revisions

Use p/n iQ20-RS to upgrade these systems:
• AquaLink RS - Rev QQQ & older
• AquaLink PDA - Rev 5.0 & older

I've been looking pretty hard core at this and have a similar panel. Mine was installed in 2006 so looking at an iq20-rs which is a full upgrade with wifi on a ps pda setup. Looks like it's a whole board swap. I believe the 20 is a rev over the 900 which supports > 802.11a/b bands (which are ancient at this point), but functional.

The IQ20-a includes just the antenna. This only adds wireless capability to your PDA system. You still use the PDA to program everything. This basically adds SmartPhone ability to turn things on and off. It is a wholly useless upgrade.

The IQ20-rs includes the antenna and a new system board that makes your system an "RS" system. You now program with the SmartPhone or Web interface. Jandy also has full access to your system for troubleshooting. Your PDA is now just used to turn things on and off. You will most likely never use the PDA again.

The upgrade is very easy. You add the antenna to any available 4 wire communications port (you can put 2 devices in each port). You replace the system board with the new one. Total time is about 15 minutes start to finish. Once done, you will need to totally re-program your system. The instructions included tell you what parameters to write down to make programming easier. I didn't follow that step but it took only 5 minutes to figure it out. It is basically just matching up AUX ports with what they do.

This is the board you will be taking out and replacing with the new, RS board.

Terminology question. When you say just the antenna do you mean the white round device? That is more then an antenna. It is a wireless WIFI transmitter.

Yes. It is better said it adds "WiFi" capability. But physically it is just the round antenna "assembly".

I am confused how the OP in this thread says they upgraded their “antenna” and still has the blue device.

Good question! Maybe they are counting the home wireless router as the "upgrade"?

Also wanted to add one comment. The PDA to RS upgrade is just a board and the antenna assembly IF you have a current main system board, which I did when I upgraded. If your system is old enough, you'd also need to replace the main board. Below is one I found on eBay that includes the worst case scenario components which is the main board, PCB board and antenna.

BTW: The below system is an RS-8 Pool and Spa system so it would work for just about anyone.

And here is a current system board if you have an older board. You can use this for any version of RS or PDA by replacing the PCB which I pictured earlier in the thread.

The antenna is actually white I’m not sure what board is in it but I know I have never replaced it. It’s probably the original which is about 7-8 years old. Thanks for your reply photos coming today.

So just finished this upgrade - couple of pointers.

1) connect it to a access point with limited / no internet filtering - I connected this to a pretty locked up network and it wouldn't talk with the iaqualink server side. (Nothing crazy - but I don't serve add trackers /cookie services, etc to my home network), after I let it hook up to an unfiltered internet it was able to be detected.

2) Jandy Jxi Heater forgot its config when moved panels - it would kick on into heater mode when the pump turned on like it wasn't connected to the panel - ran over put it in "normal menu" mode (jandy jxi400), and the was testing heater from the panel and all was good.

3) The pump setup - don't forget to add your VSP in filter mode - if you don't - the new panel won't see it - DUH.

It was a pretty simple upgrade - the wifi / network was the wonky part - the rest of it was pretty straightforward. The heater threw me for a loop as I was looking for the connetions on the panel which were opening the switch - and there was no such thing - so was really really confused, but went and looked at the menu and it was in dummy - heat pool mode - no idea why - but once I kicked it to normal menu all seemed aok.

Good luck with your upgrade!

eBay is your best bet. Make sure to match your system or better with the new board. So if you have a PDA ps-4 then get an rs ps-4 or higher number. Also make sure you get the right system in regards to pool only or spa only or pool plus spa. If in doubt have Jandy give you the right part number.

Ebay isn't the only bet, but it's probably the cheapest - search for "iq20-rs" on the web, and there are a couple of retailers who will sell you the kit. I needed the whole kit as the PDA panel firmware would have required a hardware and software upgrade. (And since Jandy is not so good with their customer support, buy it on a card with purchase protection in case there are problems with it.)
