Has been years since i last posted...

- Paddock built in 2000.
- 15000 gal in ground
- Paramount PCC 2000 in-floor cleaning
- (considered 12 zone i believe)
- Pentair Clean & Pure cartridge filter (CCP420)
- 2 OLD pumps
- 1 pump for filter
- 1 pump for in floor/water fall feature

Trying to figure out if i can/should upgrade BOTH pumps to VS or what other options there may be. Also, what size HP to upgrade too and what the best pump options are...

Thanks for any guidance!

In the United States, variable speed (VS) motors will be required for all pumps over 1.1 total HP as of July 18, 2021. So if you want anything other then a VS pump buy it soon.

What model and HP pumps do you have now? If you don't know post pics of the pump and all data plates on the pumps and motors.

What controls the pumps run times?

Mark,

In my mind you want the main pool pump to be a large VS pump...

Just for reference, you can run a 3 HP IntelliFlo, 24/7 at about 1200 RPM, for less than $20 bucks a month..

I would not upgrade the IFCS pump as most likely you would have to run any VS pump at full speed for the IFCS system to work, so you should get a single speed pump that is sized for your system... What HP pump is there now?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks for the responses. Motors have been swapped out over the years...so right now the filter pump has a data plate with no HP listed. The IFCS has a 1.5 HP. Previous owner left blueprints that shows IFCS was to have 1HP, but they don't show a specific HP for the filter. Not sure of the timer name...2 rotating timers. Pic attached.
Thanks for thoughts/guidance.

Mark, are your pumps working ok now? Why do you want to upgrade the pumps?

It looks like you only run your filter pump for 2 hours a day and your IFCS for 2 hours a day. Getting a VS pump for either is not going to save much in energy costs with a 2 hour runtime.

If you get a VS pump for your filter you can run it much longer at low RPMs for less electrical cost if you wanted. The HP doesn't matter as you will set the RPMs to get whatever HP works best with your pool system.

Your IFCS needs a high HP and flow for it work work properly. Even if you got a VS pump for the IFCS youw oudl run it at fairly high RPM and not get much, if any, electrical savings over what you have now.

So if your pumps are working fine now then keep running them until they fail. Or replace your filter pump with an Intelliflo VS pump where you can run it longer now.

The timer is not reflective...usually run anywhere from 6-8 hours and costs a large fortune...

Then get an Intelliflo 011028 or 011056 pump. Whichever one you get a better deal on. You will not hook it up through the timer. You give it constant power and set the run schedule and RPMs on the pump control panel.

Thanks ajw22...
-Any other alternative VS pumps? I have seen a brand...Harris i think?
-Also, any recommendations on HP for the filter pump? Jimrahbe comments on running a 3 HP at 1200 rpm...i was thinking like 1.5, 1.65hp, but DO NOT want to undersize it
-Also any recommendations on the IFCS single speed pump? Are there any that are more efficient or better quality for less $$...
Thanks again everyone for guidance!!...TRULY cannot afford to make a mistake on this right now

Also.. check with your local power utility to see if they offer rebates. That may help guide some if your decision process. I know our local power utility offered rebates until the covid economy kicked in and it got canceled

Then get an Intelliflo 011028 or 011056 pump. Whichever one you get a better deal on.
The 56s are $200 to $300 cheaper right now at a bunch of websites. No idea if the PB will reflect those internet sales. I am looking at both for myself.

If the pump is still good you can just change out the motor to a V green VS and be done.. They have a 1.67hp VS that would work perfect... I changed mine out and love it, works great...

Get a salt or SCS seal kit when you replace the motor and call Inyo to make sure you get the correct pump flange for your motor..
