Hey everyone, first time poster here. I'm redoing my plumbing because the new pump/filter I purchased is configured differently... is it okay to have a union ball valve threaded directly into the pump? I've been looking around all the hardware stores for a union ball valve that has female threads on both ends so I can put it about 2 ft. from the pump but I can't find them anywhere. Called a couple pool stores and they only seem to have male threads on one end and female on the other. Thanks for any replies.

Ok, that makes a difference. But to answer you original question, it should be ok to have the ball valve directly in front of the pump.
