Had to replace the top cap to my tr100 sand filter due to a leaky pressure release valve. I ended up changing out about 50% of the sand in the process. After getting her all buttoned back up I'm having a problem with pressure. When I shut the return valve I get pressure, as soon as I open the return valve back up pressure drops and I get air bubbles. What can I do to troubleshoot this further?

Slide valves are horrible.

I would just replace the slide valve with a multiport.

Is the thought that it could be letting air in?

When I close the valve that's on this line, I get pressure and no air bubbles. I assume it's the return line.20230805_074905.jpg

Is the suction valve set correctly?

Maybe at high flow the pump is sucking in air.

Have someone look into the skimmer to see if it is staying full or draining out when the pump is on.

Maybe the skimmer weir is stuck in the up position blocking water flow into the skimmer?

Checking now.

I did notice that the basket at the pump isn't getting full of water like it used to. There's water, just a air gap in the see through plastic larger than normal.

I usually have the skimmer going but in attempting to troubleshoot I shut the valve to the skimmer. The position of that valve hasn't made a difference to the pressure.

Water levels are fine, the skimmer isn't sucking air.

Backwash worked fine right before I opened her up. I ca try to backwash again.

Would overfilling the sand cause this issue? Seems like somethings off on the suction side causing air to get in. Maybe main drain blockage?

Maybe a problem on the suction side or the return.

Does it seem like the pump is getting a bunch or air?

What position was the suction valve in before the work?

Was everything working before you did the work?

Maybe take the slide valve apart to check it.

Good call on focusing on the pump and basket area. Had a bunch of debris outside of the basket that got lodged into the inlet side of the pump. Cleared it all our, fired her up, and back in business. Thx
