Hi all,

I have an AG pool and we are going on vacation in mid August for 2 weeks. We'd love to get a timer so we don't have to have our pump on 24/7. Our pump is a dual speed with one of those annoying twist lock plugs, so we'd like to get a timer just to use with the low speed while we are gone.

It has the following specs:

HP 2-.25 SPL
Volts 115
Amps 15.0/4.4

Can someone please let me know what timer would work well with this? I've searched Amazon, but with the specs, it's hard to tell what the HP and Amps are for just the LOW speed as that would be all that we'd use with it.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks for your reply! Would you have a particular adapter to recommend for this purpose? I did think of leaving on low the entire time but that makes us a little nervous doing that too.

Gotcha. What about the HP? Is it 2HP regardless of speed?

HP = horse power. Speed is high/low.

No. 2 speed pumps come in various HP. On above ground pools you usually see 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 HP. I used to have a 2 HP-2 speed and I miss it... lol
I ran it on low 24/7 for the 9 years I had it. Went down to a 1.5 HP 2 speed, hated it, lasted 6 years. Had a spare 1HP 1 speed in my garage and voila. Miss my original. LOL

Adapter:

Hmmmm, I did see that adapter. My question is how would that work? So the adapter would plug into the receptacle. The timer would plug into the other end of the adapter....but then i'd need another adapter to plug the pump cord into the timer, no?

Also, as far as my pump goes...I need to find a timer that works with a 2HP pump? or do you mostly look at amps?

HP is defined as the rate at which work is done. Therefore, your 2 HP will develop 2 HP at a specific speed (usually the higher speed = higher work rate.) At lower speeds, it produces less horsepower and that is why it also uses LESS power (electrical).

just look at the max amps on the pump. The timer should have a rating on it that gives the FLA (Full Load Amps). It should be able to handle the momentary inrush at startup.

Thank you! So with that, i'm looking at the following options:

P1121 Pump Timer with adapters.
https://www.amazon.com/Intermatic-P...id=1532280276&sr=1-4&keywords=pool+pump+timer

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004SQGI/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

OR this timer (15Amp max) with same adapters as above.
https://www.amazon.com/Benuo-Wirele...6&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=pool+pump+timer&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q5JQMG/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1YLSW7UF6UU3X

***NOTE: I looked online, and one horsepower is equal to 745.7 watts. Our pump is 2HP - and so that is ~1491 watts. The wireless timer specifies that it will work with a pump that is less than 1875 watts.***

OR a twist lock timer - P1131.
https://www.amazon.com/Intermatic-P...2280610&sr=1-1&keywords=pool+pump+timer+P1131

The P1131 doesn’t look like it gets great reviews. Anyone have any thoughts or preference on the options I mentioned?
