Just for grins I thought I'd post the results of my testing using the TF-1000 kit compared to the testing done by a local PS (my builder)using the BioGuard "Alex" strip reading system.

I'm going to drop the pump run time down from 10hrs to 7hrs now that we aren't really going into the pool much (78 deg - time to get a solar cover). That will drop the FC down a little. Everything else is pretty close.
Thoughts?

Good morning, taz,

Another really good post to remind people to always trust their own testing. pH is normally pretty decent with test strips but that one is absolutely unusable. CYA always seems the worst and completely unreliable with strips.

What did you use to test for salt? What did they use?

Ok I'm jealous!!! How come all I got was a TF-100??? I want a TF-1000! What's up with that Dave? Do only the "special" folks get a TF-1000??? Sorry just joking around a little. Couldn't help myself.

I'm surprised at the pH, that's the one thing they usually are pretty close on. Just goes to show you that every test performed by the pool store is suspect.

Wow, again reminds me to be thankful for this site and a good test kit.

Were they recommending that you buy $100 worth of "PH DOWN"? Or did they scold you for having your FC too high??? I can't imagine how much that would have messed things up if you hadn't been troublefreepool'd.

Steve

I've got that beat easy. I recently dumped in an extra heaping helping of bleach to cure what I THOUGHT was possible algae which turned out to be dang fine dirt. Levels were falling off shock level. I tested at FC at 11 ppm----------and 30 minutes later---------THEY came up with 3.2 for FC. That's gotta be a new world record for FC loss over a 30 minute time span. How on earth is that remotely possible?

How much to upgrade to the TF 1000 again?

Hey Taz, I would not trust readings from a pool store now that I have the TF-100. I too saw a huge difference in readings. I remember everytime I went to the pool store I ended up spending $100. Now I save that money every month and use that extra money to buy adult beverages

I got distracted talking to the builder  but I 'think' it was a separate strip. I used the averaged reading on the pool pilot digital.

The TF-1000 requires purchase of the TF-100. It magically transforms into the TF-1000 when you get and follow your pool advice from this fine site!

Brent - I figure it doesn't hurt to get it tested - I needed a case of MA & they sell it cheaper than any place I've found.

What is the price? I get mine at HD or Lowes.

Do you have Pinch A Penny up in JAX?

Local Lowes pricing = $10.72 for 2 gallons of MA; Pinch A Penny pricing = $4.19 per single gallon (or $8.38 for two). And yes, same strength.
