Taylor 2600 Alkalinity test color change

I just tested my water.
FC-35.5
CC-0
PH-7.2
TA-110? (Possibly)
CH-500
CYA-100

On my TA test the color change on my kit says it will go from green to red, which it has always done in the past. Today I am assuming my alkalinity is at 110. The color changed from the normal green to a blue then finally a yellow.

Anyone experience this before? The kit is only 2 months old. Are my chemicals bad? Or could the color change be off due to shocking the pool 3 days ago and also adding acid to lower the TA?

Dom,

What is it you are trying to do???

Your CYA is 100 and most likely more as the test only goes to 100 ppm.

You can't test pH if the FC is above 10 and I'm not sure why you are trying to lower TA.

Your CYA is way too high if your plan is to "SLAM" the pool.

I do suspect that your TA problem is related to the very high FC..

Tell us more about what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanks,

Jim R.

The TA test bleaches out and goes from green>pink to blue>yellow. Or some variant depending on just how bleached. It's still done the same. Count the drops until the color shifts and won't shift anymore and deduct that last, useless, drop.

Jim,
I shocked the pool the other day based on the pool math app calculating where I needed to be for my chlorine level to get an effective shock due to my CYA level. From my understanding due to my high CYA level I need to keep my FC between 8-13 and SLAM it to around the high 30’s.
I am lowering my TA level to try and get it between 70-90. We just moved into the house a couple months ago, so I wanted to just wait until October to drain my pool to get my CYA levels down.

Jim,
I also was trying to lower my TA levels cause when we first starting testing and doing the pool ourself the TA levels were as high as 250 at one point.

Dom,

The reason I was asking is because the SLAM number of a CYA of 100 is 39 and we really don't recommend doing a SLAM with the CYA over 70...

Did you do a diluted CYA test? If not, how sure are you the you are not way over 100??

I guess my point is, waiting until Oct does not really buy you much and you are just wasting chlorine between now and then.

It is your pool, and of course you can do what you want, but on the surface it does not make a lot of sense to me..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim,
What would be the recommendation on pool maintenance with FC?
