I'm building a new pool and I would love if there was a matrix that would compare different dimensions such as resiliency to imperfection of plaster, color, durability, feel on body and touch and cost.

I'm considering mini pebble but I keep hearing too rough on touch, and there's not much information available on micro pebble or PolishedScapes. QuartzScapes supposed to be softer on touch, but it seems it could have color imperfection. Any suggestion on what I should move to if I want to get smoother surface than mini pebble, but I still want to get beautiful color? Seems too may alternatives without enough information around those. My PB doesn't know much about detail differences.

btw, I'm considering Aqua White for mini pebble, or Tahoe blue for QuartzScapes or Aqua Blue for Micro Pebble.

please review this video which is from Wet Edge but it provides a good overview of the general product differences of standard plaster to quartz to pebble to smooth pebble. While it may not cover all "pebble" types, it provides a starting point for your review.

I personally have the smooth finish pebble and very much enjoy it. It is more expensive but did not have to be concerned about rough finish affecting clothing or bare feet. Also, they tell me, in the future, all I need to do is have it re-polished rather than do acid wash or other remedial work. However, following the TFP methodology, I do not feel that will be needed regardless. Furthermore the Wet Edge product has a 15 yr warranty (for whatever that may be worth).

I voted for polished scapes because it is smooth and durable. While pebble is great and yes it comes in different 'sizes,' I prefer something smooth due to our getting older. . . Just like I prefer soft carpet or smooth tile underfoot. It's a preference.

we purchased wet edge signature matrix and Love love love it. Not smooth like plaster, but not hard on the feet either. Middle of the road for cost too.

I wanted Wet Edge but . .. It's not happening. *sigh* I'm leaning towards Hydrazzo . . . . If the pool builder will come thru for us.

We just saw a sample of the micro pebble today and I really liked it. Hoping it isn't too expensive 🤞🏻.

I'm now contemplating micro pebble and not finding any info on it either. Wish there was some.

We just decided on NPT polishedscape surfside. We just love the smoothness. This is a remodel, still in demolition phase, has not been installed yet. We like that it is white plaster, so it won't get splotchy, but has the stone and glass color.

We just had our new pool finished on Friday and we chose Aqua White mini. I can’t say yet if it feels rough but I’ve been in friends’ pools who had the regular size pebble and it didn’t feel unpleasant to the touch. However, our pool contractor suggested the mini for a smoother feel. I must say though, the plaster used with it is a very bright turquoise and I just posted my concerns last night on this forum because it looks uneven and blotchy like the blue comes out more in certain spots than others. It could be that it needs to cure to even itself out but I don’t know so I’m here asking... in hindsight I would have picked my first choice of the Aqua Cool mini which would have had a white plaster and been more forgiving, especially because we have a white water line tile... but we wanted a bright blue water like the Caribbean and that’s pretty much Aqua White. Anyway, I wish I could give you better feedback but I’m too early in the process.

Hi Cath,

Would you please post an update on the blotchyness of your pool? My contractor finished replastering a few days ago (we chose Quartzscapes Super Blue) and it's blotchyness all over. I'm beint told it's "normal" and will go away in about a month. I really doubt that, but it would be interesting to hear from someone that had the same issue like you, and time has passed. By the way I'm also in La Quinta -- someone told me that's it's basically 4 contractors that do most pools out here and all the other companies outsource to them. I wonder if we had ours done by the same team...

I'm trying to find the same information. Would you mind sharing if you went with mini or micro pebble and what color you chose? Also, did you happen to add any glass beads? Thank you.
