Just wanted to share that thanks to all of my fine friends here, my Stenner Pump, and pool and general is up and running. I had a laugh with the tech at stenner when it didn’t work at first… turns out there is a power switch. Working great now.

Will you be closing your pool or keeping it running over the winter? Congrats on getting it online...now you can help others here with the questions about it, right??

Maddie 🐞
Yes of course, I am ready and willing to help. I got all the info I needed right here. Happy to pass it along. I am planning to stay open this winter. It doesnt get too cold here in Charlotte.

NICE! I'm in Georgia and definitely want to do that. I looked into the pump combo like you have a couple of months ago before my pool was finished and I've been thinking that I want to dive back into it again. Which pump combo setup to you get and where did you get it? Thanks!

Happy to help. I ordered this kit after confirming 3gpd fixed output was all I needed:

Stenner Acid Feeder Peristaltic Pump with 7.5 Gallon Acid Tank 110V | S7G45MFL1A2S

Then I ordered this connection for the plumbing.

Spears 402 Series PVC Pipe Fitting, Tee, Schedule 40, White, 2" Socket x 1/2" NPT Female https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009F3JTF...abc_D6GDH43E7N2VNAE9BX5T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I have the iAqualink so I connected the power to a gfi controlled by a relay, so I don’t need a separate timer. The 3gpd models output .27 ounces per minute. So far I’ve run the pump for 2 hours at 1am and my pool is at about the pool builder first 30 day recommendation of 7.2. Today will be the first day to confirm 2 hours a day keeps the PH steady. I cut the 31% Muriatic Acid with water 50/50. Stenner says this isn’t necessary but I will start this way and see how it goes. If did not cut the acid I could run the pump for an hour instead of 2 for the same effect.

I learned all of this here!

I would love an instruction to do this...I am pretty handy! I assume you buy the pump, plumb it into existing PVC lines and provide power. I will probably use an outlet and not tie it into my intellicenter So I would use an old school lamp timer for control. I am not looking for precise control but if I can get to manually adding acid once a week or two that would be great!!
So you injected downstream of the heater? Assume the pool water has to be circulating to inject?

Yes. My injection point is the last this on the pool return. After the SWCG and Heater. A Timer would work just as well as tying it into pool automation. iAqualink has some nice features where you can set a pool RPM for the outlet, so not only do you know the filter pump is running, but you also know the speed its running. Not necessary but nice.

Nice... I just pulled the trigger and got the same one as you except 220V. I did research all of this about 3 months prior to the pool being finished (finished at Thanksgiving) and the pb said 'no... you don't need that' but I'm tired of pouring the acid in every day or every other day already. I've got an iaqualink panel as well with some extra relays so I'll just control it from the panel too.... 16 ounces per hour... I like it.

I installed the Stenner pumps for my acid and liquid chlorine feeds about a year ago using my iAqualink system. It is virtually trouble-free. You might want to look at Covers n-all for covers for your tank. They sure help keep them clean.

Did you put your stenner relay in series with the pump relay so you can be sure that the acid pump never comes on without the pump? This is why I got the 220V I'll come off the load side of the pump relay to the line side of the stenner relay and then from the load side of the stenner relay to the stenner pump.

That was my original plan. But the PB electrician was not familiar with the configuration so he just wired an extra GFCI into the Extra Aux available since I do not use Solar Heat.

I like it this way better. Aqualink has a setting where each Aux can have a corresponding filter pump RPM. I set the acid pump Aux to 2750. Now whenever the acid pump GFCI is on, the filter pump is running at 2750 rpm.

In addition, I think the risk here is very low. The 3GPD pump puts out acid at a very slow rate of .27 ounces per minute. At that very slow rate, I think there is very little risk if the acid pump were running without the filter pump.

Last thing, I no longer dilute the acid. I use 31.45 without any issue. Stenner confirmed dilution is not necessary.

Since I turned off my always on spillway my acid needs have reduced considerably. I am stil measuring, but it looking like it’s settling in around 5 oz. a day.

Does anyone see an issue with pumping the acid into the sheer decent plumping instead of the filter plumbing? If plumbed to the filter pump and the pool goes into spa mode while the stenner is active no water will be flowing into the pool. Seems it might be easier just to use the sheer decent plumbing.

Nice! I just sent my Muriatic Acid pump to Stenner for repair and they said it needed total replacement because the pump and motor were corroded. CAUTION. Do not try to cover them with custom made outdoor furniture covers. These covers were the cause of the corrosion from the acid fumes being trapped under the cover.

I was reviewing the photo of your Stenner pump input and noticed that you are not using a Stenner check valve. Have you experienced any backflow issues without the check valve?

I contacted Stenner and they confirmed that the connection itself is a check valve and is sufficient. No additional check valve is needed.
