how long after plaster is applied is it ok for the pool to sit empty? I have read where you don't want water in it before 6 hrs...but is there a limit on it sitting empty?

There is no finite cutoff for "too long".

Letting new plaster sit for 6 hours before water is added lets it harden before being submerged in water, because it is very easy to dissolve the surface of fresh unhardened or uncured cement/plaster. If you fill the pool with a garden hose it can take 24 to 48 hours before the lower areas and steps get under water.

Once the plaster hardens after a few hours it can begin shrinking and can develop spider cracks. How long depends on the temperature and sun on exposed plaster.

You can read the discussion in New plaster on renovated pool- when to refill?

Why do you ask?

Wow....that's some Alkaline water!..... s'ok, you can easily work on that while you're lowering that pH with Muriatic Acid. Did they give you a start up guide?

Put 30ppm of CYA in there and some liquid chlorine. Use the Non-SWG recommended levels of the FC/CYA guide.

Then you're going to want to add some Calcium to get it up to 250 at least.

It's the reflection (look at the flamingo float) - makes it look like the skimmer is completely open, because it's reflecting the open top half on the the water. Ours does that sometimes too, usually sending me outside to double check.

Gorgeous pool - congratulations! ?
