STA-RITE MAX-E-THERM HEATER SR333HD QUESTION

HELLO EVERYONE!

I HAVE A 5-YEAR-OLD SR333HD STA-RITE MAX-E-THERM HEATER ISSUE THAT RECENTLY DEVELOPED:

WHEN THE FILTER PUMP TURNS ON (VIA TIMER, POWER THEN ALSO GOES TO THE HEATER) THE HEATER BLOWER STARTS TO RUN CONTINUESLY, EVEN WHEN NO HEAT IS CALLED FOR. ITS JUST THE BLOWER RUNNING AND NOTHING IS DISPLAYED ON THE CONTROL PANEL. AND, THE HEATER WILL NOT TURN ON WHEN HEAT IS CALLED FOR.

I BELIEVE THE IGNITION CONTROL MODULE (42001-0052S) IS THE PROBLEM BUT WANTED TO SEE IF ANYONE EXPERIANCED THE SAME ISSUE.

THANK YOU!

JOHN

The "blower" operation is initiated by a call for heat at the ignition control ( 24VAC at ignition control between "TH and "GND" on the ignition control ). If you do not have 24VAC between "TH" and "GND" on the ignition control and the blower is running it would seem to indicate that the blower relay in the ignition control is stuck closed. Tapping on the ignition control with a screwdriver may cause the blower relay to "release", but the blower relay contacts are likely to have deteriorated. One thing that may have caused this is the blower drawing excessive amperage due to a weak/failed capacitor or deterioration of the blower motor bearings. Both the blower motor capacitor and the blower motor amp draw should be checked against the rating listed on their nameplates.
