Title pretty much tells the story . I lost my balance.

the top cover got dented (not cracked though) pretty bad but it seems to run fine. Should I leave it alone or open it up and see if there’s damage to anything internal?

Keep your eyes out for someone who or replacing their pump or motor and ask them to donate to you the bump cover. There are enough that run through here, you should be able to get one eventually.

The capacitor did get dented. Pump seems to be starting up fine. Am I asking for trouble not replacing it?

Capacitors are cheap, get a new one. If you replace yourself don't touch the terminals as it can shock you. Touch the 2 terminals together with an insulated handle screwdriver to discharge the capacitor on the old and new one before handling.
