Small bulge in inground pool liner

Hello,

This week I noticed in the shallow end of my vinly-lined inground pool a rock-like bulge about halfway down in the corner of the shallow end. It is hard, not a bubble, and feels like a rock. I did the best I could with the photos. One is a zoom in on the bump, which protrudes quite far. The other two are looking down from the top corner of the pool. I have been monitoring the water level and it does not seem to be leaking. I am not sure what to do about it prior to closing for this winter.

Should I put a patch over it just to be safe, hope for the best, and wait until it is time to replace the liner to deal with it? Or should I be concerned that there is some underlying structural issue that should be addressed sooner rather than later.

Thanks!

Joe P.

That's quite the bump for sure. It might help viewers to know the following:
- How old is the pool/liner?
- What type of coping do you have? Can you post a pic above so we can see the trim and decking?
- Have you set a date for closing yet?

I'm sure others will follow with some advice. Best of luck.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have only been in the house a couple of years, but the liner is only about 10-years old per the previous owners of the home. If I had to replace the liner it would be disappointing. I have attached pictures of the corner. It's aluminum coping, typical of pools with steel or fiberglass walls I think, but the experts here would know better. I am trying to find out for sure from the previous owner the wall material. There is some concrete damage in the corner of the pool where the bulge appeared which I was planning to repair in short order before the bulge appeared.

I was planning to close the pool on 10/3.

I've got two small ones like that in the deep end.
Liner was install 5 years ago. I'm not planning on doing anything about it until it gets replaced in another 10-15 yrs, then I'll take that day off and point them out.
Imo if they don't get bigger, you might be ok to leave it alone.
