The water is looking better but I had FC loss over night. I opened the pool 3 days ago with a cya of 40. I dissolved enough cya to bring up to 80 cya. Do I assume the cya level is 40 or 80? I know it takes time for the cya to record on test. My problem is I’m not sure what number to go by to slam. Like I said I had a fc loss last night of a few ppm and water still cloudy. My fc reading right now is 21

If you used the sock method and it all dissolved yesterday, then consider your CYA at the new level.

Curious, did you not do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test before increasing the CYA to ensure you had no algae.

No I think I made the mistake of just adding the CYA (sock method) on day two when the water was still green. My thought process was to maintain the fc add the cya asap. Maybe my bad……now the slam still going on I need to keep fc really high.

so I assume fc of 21 is not high enough for cya of 80? So I should buy more liquid chlorine ?

Correct, and I'm afraid so. According to the FC/CYA Levels, a CYA of 80 requires an FC level of 31. :(

Thanks people……yeah not a fun mistake. My wife says……..are you sure you know what you’re doing?
My husband kept saying the same thing during mine and added "should we bring in a service to do it" 😂😂 He now doesn't say a word & fully knows I can handle whatever mess the pool gets in.
