Skimmer & Return Jet Gasket with Wall foam. Trim back wall foam or sandwich with wall?

Hi Folks,

Installing a new AGP with wall foam. Question regarding the gasket for the skimmer and return jet.

Is it best to just sandwich the two gasket surfaces with the wall foam between the liner and metal wall? Or is it best to trim the wall foam back from the cutouts about an inch or so? The latter so as you tighten down the mount screws or collar, it will be a tighter fit between the liner and metal wall, perhaps too much give with the wall foam in between?

Looking through archives, and previous discussions on this...I'm probalby going to cut back an inch or so of the foam around the gasket mating areas. I had problems on the previous pool when trying to get the skimmer gasket to seal without cutting the wall foam back. But it wasn't this kind of butterfly gasket...so wasn't sure if best practice as the same or not.

I've never done wall foam on an above-ground pool, but on inground pools the foam gets cut around the whole fitting. I wouldn't want the wall foam anywhere near that gasket.
