Skimmer Basket Float Valve Assembly

Hi

My skimmer has two plumbing lines on the bottom, one is plumbed to the filter they other is just capped. I understand some pools have that second line run down to the main drain, mine does not. With that in mind, is it still useful to use the float assembly in the skimmer or is it not accomplishing anything?

If you only have one open port in the bottom of the skimmer, there is no need for the float assembly.
