Do sheer/rain descents only throw off a pools PH when ran or can it mess with other pool water parameters?

The aeration the sheer descent causes when it runs releases CO2 in the water that raises the water pH.

If you don't run water through all of the pipes at least once a day you risk the water getting "stale". Most people set their systems to run everything for about 10 mins a day to keep the water fresh.
We've had crazy weather over the past 2 years. Hot and dry and then torrential rainfall. I'm either adding (well) water or draining water. My primary issue has been drastic reduction in calcium hardness.
