Hey guys, I recently had our nonfunctioning salt cell replaced and have switched over from chlorine to salt. I am confused about the CYA target. I thought it was a goal of 30-50 CYA for a chlorine pool, but I'm reading now it should be higher for a salt pool? Can someone explain this to me? I saw on another page that you want your chlorine to be 7.5% of your CYA level. Does this number change for salt pools? I currently have a CYA of 37 and a chlorine of 7.5. Chlorine seems high to me so I've turned the generator down a notch. I'm using the PureChlor brand. Thank you!

You want a higher cya (around 70ppm) as that will protect your chlorine from the sun since the cell makes it slowly over time.

You'll find that you consume way less FC with the higher CYA levels that are recommended for salt pools, especially this time of year. Sounds like that's not a problem at the moment but you can get better life out of your cell by not making it work harder than it needs to. What salt cell do you have? R4, R5, or R7?. How much runtime and %power?

hey! I have no idea about the salt cell. just went out to take picture of it. Am I supposed to be turning it on and off or just leave it alone? I see the sticker on it now with the recommended levels. And how often are you typically adding salt to the pool? Thanks!

Can you please examine the cell on all sides for a model number? There should be a designation somewhere. How do you control the pool equipment? Is it manual, timer, or automation? You will not consume any salt in normal operation. If you experience heavy rains and have to drain the pool or have a level control drain you will lose salt and eventually have to add some.
