Chrissy,

The salt water test goes from yellow (first drop of R0630), to a cloudy white (first drop of R0718), to a Salmon color (last drop of R0718). Just to be sure, you are using the K-1766 Taylor test kit, correct? Here is a link to it on Amazon:

Yes, I am using that kit. Mine never turns from the milky white.

C,

I am not sure what is wrong, but give us some more info..

What does your IC40 report? Low salt, high salt or OK salt?

Did you just add the salt to your pool? If so, how many bags and how long ago did you add it?

Is this the first time running the salt test, or has it been working fine in the past, and now for some reason it is not working?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Salt was added in April by the pool company when they installed the SWG. I have never gotten the test to work right so I gave up on it. Last night my cell started flashing low salt about an hour after we had rain so I knew had to figure this out at some point and now is as good as time as any. Today the cell is back to green.

Make a test standard. Put two ounces of table salt in 5 gallons of tap water. That will be right at 3000 ppm salinity. Test that.
the initial drop was very pale yellow, here it is at 15 drops. I mixed the water very well and let it sit then mixed again before testing.

Odd --- never heard of issues with this test that is not explained by test error.

I do not have that test, so will defer to others.

I have two K-1766 test kits both new with expiration of 03/21.
here are results of second test kit, the test was done twice with this kit. The yellow was even lIghter than the first kit and after 15 drops

Wow... you have two kits and both are giving you incorrect results?! Then let's make sure you are doing the test correctly:
1) Get 10ml of your pool water
2) Place in 1 drop of R0630.
3) Swirl to mix. Water should turn yellow.
4) Add a drop of R0718 swirling the solution while you add. Water should turn a milky white.
5) Continue to add drops of R0718 to milky solution swirling constantly until milky solution turns salmon (orange).

If you are doing the above just as described, I am at a loss. I have never heard of this test not working if done as above.

What does your SWG say the salinity is? Have you had it independently tested by a Pool Store? Do you have what they reported for the salinity? Has your SWG been working correctly and producing Chlorine?

Just reaching at this point...

If you are using a standard test solution as Marty suggested in post #8, it should be 3000ppm. While that should be 15 drops (200x15=3000), stopping at 15 drops may not make the test go to the salmon color. Continue adding drops to get to the salmon color.

What are the exact reagent numbers in your kit?

Your kits arrived with the R0600?

If so, contact the supplier. They should replace both kits in their entirety.
I just did. Kids, let this be a lesson buy from TF test kits. This was my first time cheating on them and my last. This whole thing has been a disappointment from the start. I had just gotten my refills in March and a few weeks later I needed the salt kit. Instead of paying shipping again I went through Amazon. The first kit got lost and had to fight for a replacement. They wanted me to file a shipping claim and I refused. They finally sent a second kit in May And the first one showed up at my house about three weeks ago. Oy
