Hi everyone, a newbie here. From what I've been reading on this forum, salt level (in a non-SWG pool) doesn't seem to matter. Is that correct? My pool's salt level seems high - around 5000.

Hi mknauss, yea I can taste the water is a bit salty (not too noticeable though). I typically use 10% bleach (as recommended by TFP), which blend does seem to have salt content. I occasionally use 70% Cal-Hypo, say about once a month.

To most people, 5000 ppm would be pretty salty.
Are you sure the Leslie data is salinity and not tds?

If they have the meter set to TDS, that is an incorrect reading.
The meter should only be set to Salinity.
If you get a reading in TDS, you can convert it to salinity.
For example, if the TDS reading is 4,900 ppm, the salinity reading should be about 3,200 ppm.
Using typical amounts of liquid chlorine per day (3 ppm FC per day) can add 5 ppm salt to your pool.
In 100 days, you can add 500 ppm salt.
In any case you should get a K-1766 salt test kit or a salt meter.

Ah. I think it's TDS, which at the latest reading at Leslie's said 4500 ppm. Would this mean about 3000 ppm for salt?
Correct.
I recommend a K-1766 salt test kit.
Maybe just convert to SWG now that you already have the correct amount of salt.
