Salt In Town Water & Troubleshooting Cell

Hello,

I recently filled my new above ground pool with town water from the tap. I did a salt test before adding ANY salt and found it to be quite high already?

When running my chlorinator cell it doesn't seem to be smokey (clear case) or working what so ever... Do I need to add salt to the water? What's going on?

Thank you,
Moonblade.

Test strips are notorious for being inaccurate. Seriously doubt tap water high in salt. Get a drop based salt test kit. Probably why swg not working.
See TFT test kit link in my signature
Taylor K-1766 salt test kit. Get one. Don't have a SWCG without it.

Municipal water suppliers could never deliver water with a salinity that high as it would violate EPA standards. Most municipal water supplies keep the sodium and chloride levels to less than 50ppm. So given that fact, your test strips are obviously faulty. As others have mentioned, a K-1766 test kit will give you the most accurate results.
