Salt Cell size

I just bought a home with a pool that has a salt cell that is not working. It has a Hayward T-CELL-9. The pool is small about 8000 gallons. I was wondering if I could replace it with a T-CELL-3?

jj,

You want a cell that is rated at least 2 x the volume of your pool. So, I would not install a cell smaller than a 20K cell. The bigger the cell the longer it will last and the less you have to run your pump. (This matters more if you have a single-speed pump, not so much if you have a VS pump.)
