Our pool was completed 4 weeks ago and our pool builder added 6 bags of salt this morning. Said to add two more in a couple of days if red light was on salt cell. We have Pentair and my app says it’s at 4450ppm. I know that is a high reading. Do I go ahead and drain a little and add fresh water or wait to see if it balances out? Just didn’t know if it took awhile to regulate since this is the first time salt has been added.

Welcome to TFP.

How many gallons in your pool?

You need a Taylor K-1766 Salt Test kit to confirm your salt level and that nothing is wrong with your app.

Most likely, the salt is on the floor and getting sucked into the main drain.

Remember that the Intellichlor only reports the salinity at start up and after twelve hours of continuous use. So the current data may be way off of reality. You should have the SWCG powered off until you test the water salinity at the proper level.

Thanks! I haven’t touched any of the equipment. Looks like everything is on though. Haven’t had pool school yet so I’m not 100% familiar with everything yet.

Very sad that pool builders add salt with the SWCG powered. High levels of salt pumped through them can damage them. I suggest turning off the pumps and brush the pool really well.

My PB (or the contractor he hired to open my pool) never checked salt and just dumped in 8 bags and turned the SWG on. I didn’t know enough to question anything at the time. I checked my salt with a Taylor kit after the cell failed a week later. 5400 ppm.
