Was told it is part of a top to bottom circulation system. Not clear on this.

Eight inlets, sounds like some type of pop-up floor cleaner or circulation system.. If so, I would run the other way.

You need to know the volume in gallons of the pool/spa. Then you need to make sure any SWCG you get is rated for at least 2 X the pool volume. A 20K pool/spa needs to have a 40K cell as a minimum.

Skimmers & drains plumbed separately

I suggest that you go with two skimmers and make sure each skimmer and the main drain are all individually plumbed back to the equipment pad. All the valves at the equipment pad need to be Jandy style valves. I am a big fan of having a 2-way valve on each input rather than using 3-way valves. Other than for the automated Intake and Return valves that will switch between the pool and spa modes.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Welcome fellow Houstonian.
I estimated your pool volume to be just over 20,000 gals based on your sq. area and using an average depth of 5ft. Then you need to add another 700 gals for your spa - so estimated about 21,000 gals. However your PB should be able to confirm that.

Strongly suggest you go with a SWCG, especially if you tend to go on extended vacations or travel for business. You do not want to use pucks (which refers to your Chlorinator 320, because you be fighting high CYA within a year of opening your new pool. This then requires you to drain it and start over again.

I would also go with a 400BTU heater. It will heat your spa quicker and should you wish to heat your pool a couple of times a year, it will handle it in a reasonable time. Just ensure your home natural gas meter can output sufficient gas to support the 400BTU heater.

Having 8 returns to the pool (that what your spec implies) seem a bit much. I have 5 which is more than enough but I do have a slightly smaller pool. Suggest you get details of what they will set up. There are some PB going with deep returns as well as normal mid-water returns so it just may be a new design that PB is offering. The deep returns are said to circulate the cooler water at the bottom better, but you have a main drain to have suction from the deep that seems to also circulate the cooler water. Be interesting to see what your PB shows you on this.

Definitely suggest 2 skimmers which are independently plumbed back to the equipment pad, as will be your main drain.

Do you plan a water feature?

Post a graphic of your pool as that helps visualize your set up.

Also, do you plan to have multiple bids - suggest 3 at least if you can get PB's to quote.
Look forward to watching your build progress.

I received some updated info on the quote (below). I tried to download the sketch but experienced some technical problems (will try again later). Due to minor slope issues, one side of the pool will need to have a retaining wall which will also include a water feature. I have received 2 other bids so far and am waiting on one more which will come at the end of the week. The other 2 bids I received were significantly higher for a similar set up.

General Specs
Area of Pool: 552 sf

This all looks inline with earlier feedback. Since you will have a retaining wall ensure you have a professional engineer document the design and then have the subcontractor follow it.

Your choices for coping, tile, and especially plaster (pebble) can have huge cost implications. Even going from one level (color) of pebble sheen (for example) to another can cost thousands more. I definitely recommend getting costs for those before signing a contract.

You don’t need to make final selections, but you should know the type of material for tile, coping, and brand and product of plaster before signing, in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies. I will be going to their design center sometime this week which will give me an idea on the scope of tile/coping costs. I am debating if I should go with stamped concrete or with acrylic over concrete on the deck. I keep reading that the SWG should be double the capacity of the pool. In this case, it will be slightly less than 2x (20,665 gallon pool which may increase versus a 40,000 gallon SWG), will this be a problem?

The purpose of the 2x recommendation is because SWCG are rated for 100% output. So a larger SWCG allows you to run it at a lower percent, i,e. 50%. It just provides more flexibility when you have a variable speed (VS) pump. So, for example, you could run your VS pump for 24 hrs at a low speed and maybe your SWCG is set at 40% or you could run your VS pump for 12 hrs and your SWCG may be set at 80%. Basically you want your SWCG to replace how much free chlorine (FC) your pool loses each day due to UV and bather load. So every pool is different. On the PoolMath app, there is a section to help you set up your SWCG based on how often you wish to run your VS pump and how much FC you need to generate daily. Also, there is a minimum flow rate you must run your VS to activate the SWCG which is for example above 1500 rpm (again this may vary by pool set up).

Hayward SWCG only makes certain size SWCG and 40,000 gals is their highest rating. Whereas Pentair makes a 60,000 rated SWCG. So you be fine with the Hayward 40,000 rated SWCG and suggest you get the Pool Math app to help set up for your specific pool needs.

Would I be better served if I went with the TriStar Vs 950 over the 900? The primary difference is the 900 pump is 1.85 HP while the 950 is 2.7 HP. The pool will have between 20,500-22,000 gallons. I plan on running the pump long and slow and didn’t know if the 950 would be overkill or not.

The higher hp pump can be run at a lower rpm to move the same amount of water as the lower hp pump, and thus will use less electricity.

Excavation and rebar was done yesterday/today. I honestly don’t know what to look for to see if there are any flaws. Based upon these photos does anyone see any potential issues?

Rough plumbing was completed yesterday. I was told that gunite will happen today or tomorrow, which seems fast considering it’s been less than a week since excavation. is there anything I should watch out for when they apply gunite?

Sorry I'm late to the party.

You want the OmniLogic controller.
The W3T-CELL-15 salt cell. It is controlled by the OminLogic.
Filter: Cartridge, Hayward C4030 Upsize to the C5030, has more filter area, longer times between cleanings.
Pump: Hayward Tristar VS 900 Request the Tristar VS 950. More HP, higher flow rate, economical to run.
