Replacing Hayward 1HP

Total noob here. I have a Hayward 1HP model C48K2N143B1.

I am curious if I wanted to replace with a energy efficient variable speed what would be a good model? Pool is just basic pool 3 - 8ft deep. No water fall or any extras. Although would like the capability to add a little dazzle in future (waterfall)

Do you currently have a controller that you would like to use with the VS?

Also, another option if your current pump is in good condition and you are fairly handy, you could just change the motor out for a two speed motor and save nearly the same amount in energy costs at probably half the cost of a VS.

Thanks for responding ... not that handy and all I have now is the pool pump. So any replacements or vs pool pumps would be helpful.
