I'm hoping someone can help. My pool has had metal problems since I had it put in, though I'm not really sure why. I don't use well water and don't have a heater so I'm not sure where the metals are coming from. The only suspect is the clorox salt I've used in the past and according to this forum, has been known to contain iron. I've done the absorbic acid treatment multiple times and it always fixes the issue, only to return again. Last week, after returning home from vacation, I noticed my pool water was green, but clear. The PH was around 7.8. Instead of using absorbic acid, I tried two bottles of metal magic. I followed the instructions and two days later, my water is perfectly clear. One week later, its green again, though all of my numbers are good, even my PH! I don't get it. See the attached pictures. The first is what it looked like a week ago. The second is after two days of metal magic, and the third is just one week later.

FC: 2.2
CC: 0.4
PH: 7.4
TA: 70
CYA:50

Would the water be clear if there was algae? I guess it could be something other than metal. I would be surprised if two bottles of metal magic only lasted one week..

Without a doubt it’s metals. If you can source pro team metal magic then you need to do a weekly dosing Once you’ve chased those metals back into suspension. Members have also had good results using poly fill in their skimmers to capture some metals. There isn’t a pool out there without trace metals, the key is to keep chlorine close to 7% of your cya reading and do not let the ph climb.

I wasn’t going to mess with trying to hold metals in suspension with sequestrant for the rest of my days and getting a positive result with the poly fill filtration process seemed iffy at best. Full water exchange (tarp method) fixed the issue once and for all.

You tap water may be the source of your metal in your water.
Nope. It was the hydrant water the PB filled it with. Iron stains. I had my tap water checked in advance to confirm metals content. Iron .1 ppm.
