Question on rising FC

I’ve posted before but the FC is just continuing to rise. This is the first year with the pool.
Pump is running 24/7 with IC40 @ 40%. Is the FC not tapering off because it’s not hot enough yet or what am I missing?

Y’all are always so helpful so here I am again. Pool is crystal clear of course and we swam yesterday the wife and I. Could tell chlorine was high, dry skin and such later.

72 is still kind of low temp. Keep lowering your swg percent until it's balanced. You could turn it off for a few days too. Don't forget to increase it as the season starts.

If your SWG is properly sized for your pool, 50% for 24 hours produces as much chlorine as your pool should consume during peak season. Turn down the percentage and/or run time.

I was wondering regarding turning it off because that’s what I went ahead and did. I’ll just keep an eye on it daily and surely it will fall with it off. Is my brain in the right direction thinking it’s continuing to climb because the temp/sun isn’t burning it off yet?

Where would be a good point to throw it back on? Last thing I want to do is let it get to low and end up with blooms and such.

I think last time I posted here we came to the conclusion it’s may be undersized if I weren’t running 24/7. It’s an IC40 for about 28,000 gallons.

According to the app it should be 2.4 running 24/7.

It's overproducing because your pool isn't dirty yet and nothing for the chlorine to do. My SWG is about the same size as is my pool and I run it at 53% during the season. Right now I have it at like 10%.

Rona,

That is why they make the output adjustable...

Just turn in down.. I'm running at about 25% this time of year.

You may have to set it to 0 or 10% for a day or so to allow the FC to decrease..

Just to be clear.. A SWCG is about as dumb as a rock... It just does what you tell it.. It has no clue what the FC is.. You are the SWCG's brain.. It is your job to test the FC and then adjust the output to match the demand..

You will soon get a feel for how it works and not have to test or adjust very often.

To make life easy, you should try to keep your FC at or above your Target.. I never recommend trying to keep your FC between the minimum and your target.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Yup, first year so trying to learn it all for sure 😂

I turned the percentage all the way down to 0 so it’ll be off for a few days. I’m sure it will fall, I’ll check every day.

Down to 6. We had a pretty warm day and ended up 4 or 5 people in the pool. That combined with a couple days of SWG off dropped it significantly. I had the SWG on 10% and it was 6.5 yesterday, hard hard rains today and it’s 6.0.

I am thinking of leaving it on 10% for another day or two and see where it lands. I’m guessing my target should be around 5 with CYA around 70.

Thoughts?

Check the TFP recommended levels for SWG pools in the following chart. Some like to target a ppm or two higher for safety but your are on the right track.
