Preventing algae after closing - mesh cover

Batavia Oh
This is my second winter with a mesh safety cover, had to replace my solid one. I had the worst algae on opening the pool last spring so I assume enough sunlight gets in even though it is supposed to be 95% shade.

Do you add additional chemicals during the winter, or use a different mix when closing ?

Welcome to TFP! Members have the best success by closing as follows:
1. Close as late as possible
2. Ensure water temps are 60 degrees or lower (colder the better)
3. Ensure water is algae-free. Perform an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test if needed to confirm.
4. Increase the FC to SLAM leve prior to closing per the FC/CYA Chart
5. (Optional); allow FC to fall to about half of SLAM level and use a Polyquat 60 algaecide
6. Open as early as possible
