Pool reno/remodel - Pavers, new tile, new plaster.

Starting my pool remodel Monday. Getting pavers over my concrete lanai w/ matching coping, new waterline tiles, and new pebble finish. Getting Wet Edge satin matrix in aqua color. It’s supposed to take about 2 weeks.
I will share pics as it comes along.

Pavers were delivered today.

Here are a few before pics. We are filling in the planter bed and putting pavers over that area. We love the trees but are planning on staying here long term and the trees won’t last forever. This way it’s tall taken care of in the remodel, doesn’t cost more, and we won’t have to worry about it down the road.

Yesterday they did some demo and surface prep. They drained our 10,000 gallon pool in 1 hour! They also took off the old tile and coping.
Today they are putting new coping around the pool. We have a cantilever edge so the coping is 4 inch. Some PB that gave us quotes don't use the wide coping. They put smaller coping (2 inch) and then some tile under it. However, we like the look of this. It will match our pavers, gives a more seamless look, and is economical. To each their own I guess.
There are two guys today. One guy started mortaring the coping and another was cutting the coping for the edges. Our pool is geometric and kinda cuts sideways in the middle. We also have a raised bed they are going to fill in and paver over. That meant A LOT of cuts for our pool. Took the guy several hours just to do that. It is SLOW work. I wouldn't have the patience for it. But I guess slow means quality. I work from home and I'm watching these guys out my window and they are leveling all sides multiple times just to lay down one stone. Their attention to detail is incredible. One guy told me he gets a lot of satisfaction out of the work because it is artistic in nature.

PB scheduled plaster for Friday. I asked our guys how they are going to get it all done before then with the holiday week. They still need to finish the coping, tiles, and grout it all. Plus finishing a little surface prep. Our guy said "we'll get it done" so maybe they will send a bigger team tomorrow? Either way, seems like the schedule isn't impacting the quality of work.
Paver crew is scheduled to come out Tuesday.

Tile, coping, grout and prep are all done. Just waiting for plaster. They were supposed to come Friday but scheduling got mixed up due to the Friday after a holiday so they missed us. Then they came out Saturday and did all the prep (plastic and tape) and then after they just finished with prep, they started to take it all down. Said rain was coming so they would do it maybe Monday. The clouds passed and it never rained. Sigh, frustrating! It’s supposed to rain a bunch Monday so it doesn’t look like we are getting plaster anytime soon.
The paver crew is scheduled for Tues/Wednesday.
I’m trying to be patient. It wouldn’t be a big deal except I’m out of town the week of July 15 and I really wanted to get the pool through the first critical week. Now hubby (with 2.5 year old twins) might have to do the pool while taking care of the kids on his own. Also, I was hoping for a full pool today so we could get the chemistry right and have the kids back swimming mid week. They swim every afternoon.

Anyway, here are pics of the tile/coping. The coping and tile are still a bit dirty. Had to get extra close so you can see the color and detail of the tile. It way darker than what we had before but beautiful in the sun. I can’t wait to see it all finished with the pavers, plaster, and water.

That came out SO pretty!! That white grout really makes each tile pop! You are going to love that coping when you are sitting in the edge of the pool with you legs hanging over. It will not scrape or be rough on your legs! Well done AND it is pretty!!!

Husband+2.5 yr old twins= LOL Does he know how to sign on here? We can/will help him out while you are gone...............with the pool that is!! He is on his own with the kids!

Plaster day!! They showed up at dawn and I was so happy to see them. Looks so pretty.
Acid wash and starting fill tomorrow. Pavers pushed back until Wednesday. Still on track to be complete by end of week.

OH YEAH!

Okay when you start adding water do NOT stop it for any reason. If you stop the flow of water going in it may cause a ring around your pretty, new plaster.

Put a sock or such on the end of the hoses. It will act as a filter and keep the metal from marring your plaster

We have water!! Acid wash and pressure wash this morning and now the pool is filling.
Pavers over our concrete start tomorrow. Can’t wait until they are all done so I can see the finished product but also clean my house. The dog brings in little bits of construction all day long (ok, so do I when I keep going out to look at it LOL)

Man that looks so pretty!!

Know you might see a bit of green in your water at the start. This is very normal. The true color of the plaster will come through as the water is balanced and the plaster cures.

Pavers today. Here is a peek at the pavers and the pool now that’s it’s full. It’s so beautiful. The installers did an awesome job. We looked at it last night with the light on and it looked so smooth and you didn’t see any trowel marks, mottling, etc

The start up guy came today and I watched everything he put in. He was really great and told me the amounts. I’ll check a few chems tonight just to follow the start up guide, but I was happy to see he was on target with guidelines and didn’t seem to add too much to overshoot.

Last update for anyone following along or others that find it later. See pics for water color after chemistry adjusted. They did an awesome job on the plaster. No visible mottling and it looks amazing at night in the light. Pics took in full sun.
