I drained our 6 yr old gunite pool - made some minor repairs - light power washed some scale off the black onyx plaster finish - refilled the pool yesterday and today - 20,000 gal.

This is a SW Pool - but I haven't added salt ...waiting till pool is in chem balance.

I just ran chem tests ---
CL - .62
TCL - .97
CYA - 15
PH - 7.6
ALK - 157
CH - 114
COP - .3
IR - .1
SAT INDEX = .042

My chem goals have been in the past year ....

A - Sat Index to .00 or maybe - .1 or .2
B - CL - 3.0
C - PH - 7.2 (try to keep it a tad acid to keep CH scale from forming as it has been a problem in the past)
D - ALK - 70 - 80
E - CYA - 40
F - Salt - 2400
Copper & Iron at .00

Any recommendations for me on what my ideal chem levels should be or changes to my goals?

Thanks

Today's chem readings
CL - 1.60
TCL - 1.79
CYA - 25
PH - 7.6
ALK - 157
CH - 134
COP - .3
IR - .1
SAT INDEX = -0.10

Plaster pool ... I've added a 2nd gallon of Chlorinating Liquid this AM (added first one yesterday - first day after pool refill) with the goal to get the TCL up around 3.0 which is an good level for my pool. Probably will be end of day or Thursday ... then I'll re-check chems ... see what my CSI is ... I am thinking I'd like to get the ALK down to 70 or so and keep PH at 7.6 or 7.4 ... CSI at 0.00 is also a goal to protect the plaster and keep scale from forming on the black Onyx finish.

Any recommendations?

With your low CH I would not push the TA low. Also keep pH in upper 7's. Be very wary of aggressive water, especially in the winter when the water temperature falls.

IF copper is really 0.3ppm, that is the level at which we see staining start to occur.. a large water exchange would remove it.

I said IF there is copper. With a new fill, that is not likely. I suspect your test is not correct.
