I’m trying to get all of this testing stuff implanted in my head again. It’s literally been since 2009 since we had a pool. With that being said, here are my levels this morning. I’m using the Taylor K-2006 test kit.

CYA - 40ppm. I added roughly 10oz of stabilizer in a sock to get my CYA around 50ppm

PH - 7.4

TA - 130

FC & CC - I’m kinda confused about. For my FC, it took 5 drops to change from pink to colorless. For my CC, after adding 5 drops, the water was a real faint pink. It only took 1 drop to change from pink to clear. I’m not sure if I did something wrong, or if something else is throwing those numbers off.

Your FC is low, how low depends upon your sample size. Are you using 10ml or 25 ml of pool water when testing? Keep your FC in the target range for your CYA... FC/CYA Chart
Don't fret too much about your CC it is at a very low level and in an open to the air pool will not be an issue unless you begin to experience an algae outbreak. Focus now on maintaining the proper FC level and learning your pools demand as summer intensifies.

FC if using 10ml: 5 drops to clear X 0.5 = 2.5 FC or 5 divided by 2 = 2.5 They both come out the same, I use divided by

CC is the same, so 1 drop to clear = 0.5 CC

TA at 130 your PH will raise fast, just keep adding muriatic acid to take PH down and your TA will fall also..

With CYA at 50 you need to target 5 to 6 FC daily, never let it go below 4... I keep mine at 7 all the time :)

I’m using the 25ml mark. Thanks for the info

I test using the 25ml mark. So as far as my FC and CC levels are concerned, do I need to add more chlorine?

Best to use a 10ml sample and use less reagent. The added precision of the 25ml sample is overkill for daily FC maintenance. Use a 10ml sample, add an over the top scoop of powder, mix well than add drops to clear and divide by 2 for your FC ppm. Be aware if the cleared sample sits for a bit the pink color will reappear so ignore that.

Looking at the pool math calculator, this is what it shows I should add. Is this correct?
I’m just confused on what steps I should take. My apologies y’all.

That is exactly what you need to raise it to 6 FC, I would do 7 FC just to be sure... Isn't pool math great :)
Won’t adding that much chlorine make my chlorine levels super high? Like, can’t even get in the pool high?

Look at the chart reference above.

It is safe to swim in a pool with a FC up to SLAM level and you can see the bottom of the pool. At 40 ppm CYA, that is FC of 16 ppm.

Thanks. So looking at my post, what should I do first? Get my TA levels right, or get my chlorine level right? I appreciate y’all’s help.

Ok, can someone help me please. This is the Chlorinating liquid I am using. According to the pool calculator, I should use this much product. But reading the back of the jug, it’s completely different. I just want to make sure I’m doing it right before adding 3 gallons of this stuff.

That is 10% liquid chlorine/bleach. Follow the Poolmath data. The bottle has no idea what your goal is for FC.

Ok. I added what the pool calculator said. Do I check my levels tomorrow, or do I have to wait a couple days?

Daily. You will need to add chlorine every day from now until late September.
