Pool level close to flooding

I am new to pools as this is my first one, my pool level is extremely high and I feel at risk for flooding. It’s a Hayward system. I’m not sure if I just need to drain some water off or there is more to the problem. Thanks for your help ahead of time.

Why is your pool about to overflow?

If so, you need to drain some water off. What type of filter do you have? Do you have a submersible pump?

The skimmer isn’t working because it is past the entry point to work. I tried siphoning but there is nowhere close below pool level.

I was trying to see if you have a MPV on your filter to drain to waste. What type of filter is that? Looks like DE.

How did your pool level get so high?

I’m not sure, how I noticed it a couple days ago. We had some rain last week but I don’t think it was that much rain. I couldn’t find anything that was labeled waste, or idk if it would. I’m new to all this

Do you have an autofill? Check to see if it is stuck on.

I did not see a MPV so I think you have a cartridge filter.

You should get a sump pump from Harbor Freight or Amazon. I have a Superior 1/2 hp I got off Amazon. You would then lower your water level to mid skimmer. Use a garden hose on the sump pump to direct the water to the street (if your city allows it) or to a sewer cleanout.

Okay I will stop be harbor freight tomorrow on my way home from work. It’s getting too close for comfort. I turned off the auto fill. Still waiting to hear back from the pool guy. Wish he was as responsive as you lol

Sounds good.
If you stick around here, you will find that pool guy is expensive and does you no favors. You can do it all yourself. Easy. Just need the right tools (test kit) and guidance (TFPC forum).

Take care.

When I built my pool last year, I had the PB install a 3 way valve between pump and filter that has a length of pipe that empties to daylight and runs away into my drainage system. I use it to lower water level after heavy rains (like the 7”) we had here in Nashville last week.

I was going to suggest siphoning too, but you’ve already thought of that.

The skimmer is still working in that water is still going through the skimmer to the pump. Its no longer skimming surface water though. Just for your reference here I set my auto top up it just a little above half way and the auto drain is set at just below the top of the skimmer opening.

When your pool guy comes out get him/her to explain all the filtration and valves to you.

It sounds like your water level is still rising without a known source such as rain or tap water input. If this is true, as Marty said, look for an auto top up. They commonly look like a skimmer at the pool edge but are connected to the pool by a single pipe and have a float valve in them. If you do check that the float valve is working correctly.

My filter pumps are on a schedule, by which for some reason only my jacuzzi runs and the pool is on standby, I only ran the pool filter pump today and the levels have dropped about an inch, could this be my problem?

You have actuated valves, so what automation system do you have?
The pool volume will drop due to evaporation, but 1 inch seems a bit much for your area.
Was your auto fill stuck on to create the over fill condition?

I turned off the auto fill.
I missed this, I hope they don’t dock my pay!

There’s nothing at your equipment pad that looks like an auto top up but that little valve to the front right looks like the fresh water shut off valve for an auto over flow?

Its common to have a auto top up fitted with with an overflow. I suspect that once you’ve turned off the water to the top up valve the pool has drained down to the overflow level.

My auto top up and overflow is at my pad but its designed to look like a standard skimmer with a plastic lid and normally installed pool side. Inside is a brass float valve like you would find in a cattle trough. I think yours was stuck in the on position and needs a little maintenance or replacing.
