Can an inground pool loss water around the faceplate of the skimmer. I have been losing water in my fiberglass pool. It has gone down 3/4 the way down on the faceplate and stopped the leak. There's still water in the skimmer, so is the problem the gasket on the faceplate

I've used Allen's technique several times. Very easy to do and very obvious when you have a leak. May help if you get in the pool let it get very calm and use a diving mask. All it takes is a couple drops a few inches from the suspected leak point.
