Built my first pool a few months ago, then moved and I now own this pool with a leak and really old plaster and rocks. We want to remodel it, a friend of a friend has a remodeling company and looking for quotes. Only in pavers we have 1600sq/f, if we were to add pavers we're looking at around $15k just in pavers. So first question on this remodeling is, any ideas what I can do to the concrete deck aside from pavers?

It looks like you have cantilevered coping as part of your poured deck. If you change to pavers then you need to change to coping around the top of the bond beam.

Your deck looks good. Why do you want to remodel it? Just to change the look or are there structural issues?

Could you just resurface the deck and get a new color? You could always add a stamped boarder around the pool for a faux coping look. Much cheaper than pavers.

Since I am embarking on the reno arena myself, I will say since you already have decking try to work with what you have there and divert the money difference to all the pool area (it will make you happier in the long run). I don't have any decking so I am envious of all of yours 😂😂

Nothing wrong with the deck, a few cracks (i think this is expected) but we just want to make it look better. Is there something like resurfacing, or maybe repainting?

absolutely can resurface with different things. Look at acrylic lace and different options :)

This is another option. My friends just created a boarder with a different color when they redid their deck. Cheaper than adding a stamped boarder. BAF20F5B-8173-4471-A7D9-7189B7583880.jpeg

Soooo, in Feb we started this process and it is July 23rd and they are still not done. We can point the fingers at a lackluster performance from the PB and shortages. Basically most of the project has been me calling the PB once a week, threating to report their license, and other nice conversations. He was saying that there was a plaster shortage and also he wasn't finding Pentair lights. I couldn't just sit around so I started calling all the pool suppliers within a 50 mile radius, first I found the lights on Ebay, he said to buy them. Then I found a company willing to do the plaster work, he said "well, if you can get them to do it at $3500, you're lucky", little did he know, they did offer to do it at $3,500. So I told him, either you do it, or I hire someone else now. He said to hire them, but then called me and said he was going to call his supplier to check if they had it, so I told him, don't bother finding a supplier I know XYZ supplier at this address has it. He then confessed that he hasn't gotten the plaster because back in Feb it was about $25 per bag, but now is around $35 so he was waiting for the economy to fix itself. CAN YOU TELL HOW FRUSTRATING THIS HAS BEEN??????????????

Anyways, rant done, plaster has been delivered. We decided to remove the coping, we will add the pavers next year, but wanted to get the coping done. Added new steps, removed the rocks and added new tile. We're removing the old plaster because it is not fully bonded to the concrete, bunch of holes all over the place. Looks like another two weeks and we're done.

Thanks @kimkats
As expected my lazy PB never told the startup person about my pool. I know the startup person from my previous build so I called him up this morning, he had no idea that I was doing this reno and said he could be here on Monday, on the mean time said to add 2 gal of acid and brush brush brush. I did, looks like the spa responded pretty well to the green-ish color from the city water, the pool as some green left.

I'm running the pump at max speed, all inlets and returns are open:
Should I add my last gallon to the pool ?
One return from the spa doesn't return anything, if I have to reopen the deck to fix it I'm going to be p*****ed

Thanks!

Pool is looking blue, the contractor I used sent their own start up person, they added acid and chlorine and I've been brushing twice a day. It has been a week since the pool has been filled and they are saying I need to wait TWO MORE WEEKS to use it? That' can't be true can it?

I have the TF-100 and will start monitoring the levels myself starting today, but I can't think of any reason to wait two more weeks.

They put CYA in the water?

If the chemicals are anywhere near recommended for startup the water is safe to swim in. Run your tests and find out.

Not CYA just acid and chlorine. Just tested and PH is high 9+ and chlorine is very low. Can I start adding it? Along with CYA

Add 30 ppm of dry stabilizer using the sock method.

Add 3 ppm of liquid chlorine.

Lower your pH into the 7's.

Go swim.
