Does anyone have experience with this company? I would like to purchase an IntelliCenter from them and my pb is fine with that, but he is saying I would lose my 3 year warranty if so. If purchasing through this website, would it not be eligible for the standard Pentair warranty? Any help/comments about this website and positive/negative experiences are welcome! Thanks

He is correct about the warranty. If it is purchased online it only has a 30 or 90 day warranty unless installed by a qualified installer.

Check the Pentair website for the definition of a qualified installer. It is pretty broad.

**Note: Qualified Installer - Defined as a licensed professional who charges a fee for his services, and possesses a business license, contractor's license and/or resale permit. Common examples of a "qualified installer" include: Swimming Pool, Home Repair or Landscape Professional; Plumber or Electrician; General Contractor; Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist.

When i did my registration for my new SWG this year, the Pentair website made me fill out the installers info, eventhough i did it my self. So i put in the company that sold me the unit and their address. Amazon was out of them that day so i found it at some random pool store in Las Vegas. (Im in NY). It was accepted. Just a name and address. No license #s or dealer #s.

Yes. But I didn’t have a company to list. So ‘Bobs Poolstore in Vegas (name changed) sounded legit. So I guess I, um, Well I musta flew them out here to install it. Yup. That’s right. I flew them out. Warranty approved.

You probably didn't get the 3 year warranty then. There are some hoops you have to jump through to get cleared as an installer. I've had to do it a few times and it's pretty annoying.

The 3 year warranty was only if you purchased 3 products. When we built my pool i got the 3 year due to the filter/heater/pump/swg. Just replacing one product (the swg in this case) got a 1 year warranty professionally installed or 60 days DIY.

There are big DIY warranty downgrades for a LOT of pool equipment. I've found Pentair is one of the least onerous. Jandy is the most onerous. Many 3rd party suppliers have no downgrade. Unfortunately there's no real 3rd party for automation. So I researched and found Intellicenter was the best match for me. I bought my Intellicenter I8PS a couple of months ago through Poly Tec and have been completely satisfied. I like to DIY installer when I know I can do it and save enough money. Automation is expensive enough to be well worth the effort. As much as I wish the manufacturers would not downgrade warranty for DIY I kind of understand their position. I'd guess the market is tiny and fraught with problems from DIY'ers that really shouldn't be doing the work. I'm just happy to have sufficient warranty that I can be sure there is no faulty equipment supplied. 60 to 90 days usually takes care of this for electronics. If I had to pay for the equipment I want installed by a dealer it might as well be made of unaffordium.

I hope this helps.

Chris

PS We really love the Intellicenter!

I've purchased the majority of my Pentair equipment from PolyTec Pools. Nothing but good things to say about them.
As long as your equipment is "installed" (warranty card signed by a "qualified installer" as defined by Pentair), you will get the maximum warranty. I have full and maximum warranties on all of my Pentair equipment.
You should have no problems if your builder signs your warranty cards and you send them in.

If you read the warranty, you are allowed to self install a replacement swg cell and still get a Pentair warranty... might even be 2 years if I remember right.

As you can see on my warranty screenshot, replacement intellichlor cells have a 2 year warranty and can be self installed. Just need a receipt.
