Permits - pool, patio, and accuracy

We have some changes we'd like to do to the pool patio design. The town we live in allows us a certain percentage lot coverage before requiring dealing with water drainage concerns. We are straddling the coverage line on our design. The drawing doesn't exactly match what we are planning.

Anybody have any experience with plans, and how accurate the actual implementation needs to be concerning lot coverage and design?
Do they come out and measure after all is said and done? Do they nitpick the design?

Appreciate any stories anybody may have, good or bad.

Really depends on the township and inspector you are dealing with. Some will hold you to the letter some allow they to be a little bit of adjustment. Being upfront about major changes can save you a lot of money in the long run if they make you rip something out.
The best thing you can do is be honest and upfront on you plans and expectations for the finished project

What is considered a major change?

I would discuss any changes with the building dept, especially if it puts you very close or over the coverage limit. There are some cities around here that take it very seriously. Worst case scenario they will make you tear out your work and start over.

Is your pool already built, in the process of building, or just in the planning stages.
You are concerned about going over a certain square footage which the town has limit on if you are actively building and the inspector is coming around talk with him about it. You don't want to have expensive work done that you then have to pay to have ripped out because you didn't ask a question when you had the chance.
