We have a 12 year old master temp 400 that we hear it ignite and can see it try to light on the vent pipe but it won’t light. What else can we check or replace? It’s just saying service heater, no lights on the control board.
That is often caused by a flame sensing problem where the heater controls cannot confirm the flame is on so it shuts down. Read this for background on the problem and we can help you through the diagnostics.
I'm new here so take this with a grain of salt! I had a similar problem with a Hayward heater; trying to start or sometimes would start but quit within seconds. There was a lot of debris and dust inside, possibly this blocked flame sensor? Anyway, a careful cleaning was all that was required for ours. Good luck.
