I am building a pool and would like to put speakers around the pool and hot tub. We installed Sonos in our house in December 2007, so will utilize it for the outdoors. We already have outdoor speakers on our lower patio, but want to put speakers around the pool and hot tub (the hot tub is a stand alone). See attached image showing the pool and hot tub. photo10.jpg The next picture shows my lower patio, which has outside speakers on the walls.

Sonos has changed a lot since we first got it. I noticed they no longer have the color remote since one can simply use an IPHONE App.

My question is where should the speakers go. The far wall of the Pool will have a grotto and a rockledge inside and outside the pool, and the left and right of the pool will have a post lamp surrounded by some landscaping (this isn't shown in picture).

Also, what Sonos components and what speakers should I get. Are rock speakers a good option? We are not looking for a top of the line sound system - just something that will play decent sound and cover the area well.

Thanks

You will have to get the Sonos Amp installed some place dry and run the speaker wire to the outdoor speakers. 1 Sonos amp you can have up to 2 sets of speakers (4 total)

Unfortunalty Sonos does not make an outdoor speaker.

I ran 2 play ones and tested them outside one under my covered deck and another beind the pool and they worked fine as my wi fi connection still reached with no problems.

I'm just starting out with two play ones saving up for the soundbar next.

I know this may be a bit confusing because I cut and pasted from a Adobe file. This is the set-up I installed.

Yes, at this time sonos does not make anything that is weatherproof, so it needs to be installed under a roof, patio, etc. Which gives you two options with current sonos lineup.
1. put play1s or play3s on a patio that is covered and aim them out toward the pool/spa
2. buy the amp and run speaker wire to outdoor weatherproof speakers

We are very happy with the sound field that one sonos play3 creates from its covered location aimed toward the pool.

There is no more remote. There are apps available for iphone/pad and android phone/tab that allow you to control all of it.

I'm not sure what computer you have controlling your Sonos but the new iphone apps require an updated MAC IOS to at least 10.6 Snow Leopard. Some older MAC mini's can not get this upgrade due to the processor. I was lucky and was able to upgrade for a 20 dollar fee from apple.

I am using android phone and tab, both samsung. My kids both use ipods to control it. I don't know anything about an ipod, but theirs are pretty old and they work fine.
