Welcome to the forum! What test kit did you get? I would suggest staying away from the Pool Store unless they are a good source for liquid chlorine.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.
You may also want to get the Poolmath app.

Been doing lots of reading. Decided to jump on here for some real help. I purchased the Taylor K-2006 test kit. Pool store said I need to drain the pool mainly related to TDS = 3200 and nitrates at 40. Just trying to figure out if that is really necessary.
I don’t know enough to say it is or isn’t algea but someone in FL just posted yesterday that they had been brushing a lot of pollen so I wanted to throw that possibility out there. Good luck. The experts will help clear you out if you need them.
