My wife and I purchased a home in October of 2023, the home came with a pool. Neither of us have ever owned or cared for a pool. The previous owner quit taking care of it sometimes last summer, he did put a tarp over it but naturally the tarp ripped when we tried to take it off last week and dumped millions of leaves in the pool.
We went to the pool store today and they sold us 3 gallons of shock, a leaf rake and a brush. My wife and I got in today and raked out the majority of the leaves, but we're not sure what to do next. Our major issue is we don't know what kind of filter we have. The motor is a Hayward and the filter itself looks like ones that I've seen online, but the lever label was missing so we don't know what does what. The pool store gave us a label and guaranteed us that's what it was, but it's wrong. A friend told us to put it on recirculate over night and then change it to waste and vacuum/scrub the pool tomorrow before dumping the shock in. The issue is with the label plate they gave us, waste is actually recirculate, so I know the label plate is wrong, whether it's actually a Pentair, I'm not sure.
Aside from that, we're not sure what to do next or where to start, I'm terrified we're going to end up spending thousands of dollars at the local pool store to get this thing in swimming condition. I've attached some pictures of the pool, filter and top filter mount. I would appreciate any advice on what to do next.
