Hello all!

In the final stages of construction of our backyard oasis... All that is left is the final finish of the pool. We had a 17x30 freeform Gunite pool with people plaster installed by Blue Haven pools in NE Florida. I look forward to learning from all of you!

Ah, just in time. This may be the last time you ever get a chance to determine your pool's true water volume. A PB's estimate can be off by 1000s of gallons. It's pretty easy if your house gets it water from a municipality.

First, have a conversation with the PB and/or his crew to be sure they understand and are on board with this plan, because sometimes they'll start the fill before you know it, and then it'll be too late. Right before they start filling the pool, run out to the street and find your water meter. Open up the lid(s) and take a picture of the numbers. Then have them start the fill.

While the pool is filling, try to minimize the use of water: turn off the garden's irrigation timer, limit showers and flushes, put off the laundry, etc. When the water level reaches halfway up the skimmer opening, stop the fill and go back out to the meter and take another picture of the numbers. The difference between the two numbers you captured will be the volume of the water in your pool! If the water meter is not in gallons, that's OK, I'll help you with the conversion. An accurate water volume number is super-handy to have when calculating how much of a pool chemical to add.

If you want to fine-tune the number, you can subtract about 20 gals for each shower, and a couple gallons for each flush (if you were keeping track of each), but even without doing that your number will be very close: within a hundred gallons or so.

Congrat's on the new pool, and welcome to TFP, we're glad you found us...
