Mastertemp 400 is getting gas but wont fire. Pentair told me it was because of no regulator. Is this true? if so what regulator do I need? When trying to firing igniter stutters. They told me i need 6-8 lbs of gas pressure.

We're going to need lots more details.

Is this a new installation?

Who installed the heater?

Do you have pictures of the heater?

Natural gas or propane?

If you go to fire your heater up and then when gas valve opens up and then you hear fast repetition of clickng then you will need a regulator on your gas line. That gas pressure might break your gas valve.

You should leave the heater off until you can get a qualified professional to check the heater and make sure that everything is correct.

How long is the gas line to the heater, what size is it, and what is the service pressure your entire house runs at? Also do your other gas appliances have regulators on them?
