New Pool Chemistry

Hello,

First Pool and fourth day of operation of pool. Concerned about my water test results and am unsure if I should run screaming to pick up 20 mule team, let the bubbler work to raise pH and lower TA or adjust CH, or all or nothing to do. :)

The following tests were done using Pentair Rainbow test kits that the builder supplied.

Startup test in afternoon: FC 0.0, pH 8.2, TA 370 Pool startup guy added 11 gallons of muriatic acid, unkown strength and several cap fulls of 73% Cal-Hypo

Day 2 test in evening: FC 0.5, pH 6.8, TA 120, CH 250, CYA 30 I added 8.9 oz by weight of 73% Cal-hypo

Day 3 test in evening: FC 1.5, pH 6.8, TA 150, CH 250, CYA 30

Now using Taylor Test Kit can also repeat numbers using Pentair kit if needed.

Day 4 test this morning: FC 4.2, cc 0.0, pH 7.0, TA 130, CH 150, CYA 40

Will of course run both sets of tests if needed for comparison, or whatever is needed for data.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration,

Thank you for the replies and welcome. :)

I am following the traditional startup which closely follows what the pool builder wants.

Reading between the lines, don't sweat the other test results, just let the pool "mature/cure" and see what happens?

Just for my own edification I am going to test the water this evening using both test kits to see how closely they match, however, I am switching to the Taylor solely from now on.

Thank you again for your time.

Follow what the builder wants if he is warrantying the plaster.

The Pentair Rainbow is the same as the Taylor K-1000 test that came with your TF-100. You can use the pH test. The OTO chlorine test basically tells you if you have chlorine or not. The values are not reliable.

Use your Taylor results.....ditch the pentair kit. Don't compare accurate results to bogus results

Please read "The "ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry" up in Pool School

Yes sir, what I am doing. I was meaning that the traditional startup is the closest to what my builder wants (very close actually) without me typing out what they have requested that I do.

Yes sir I have, now that I am in for the night (laying sod fixing back yard) I will re-read the e-book.
I am just unclear how urgent it is that I correct the results that I have: Day 4 test this morning: FC 4.2, cc 0.0, pH 7.0, TA 130, CH 150, CYA 40. With these results and a water temp of 70 deg my csi is -0.78. Didn't want anything drastic to happen to the brand new pool. I am suspecting now that most of the things that will happen with a pool is gradual and I can wait for the pool to settle down a bit before making corrections as long as my results are in the ballpark?

Pentair kit officially ditched.

Thank you to everyone for your help.

The builder was closed over the weekend, I will be calling them today. Didn't want to let the pool sit and possibly damage the plaster.

When I referred to traditional startup, it is the one that is on trouble free pool which fairly closely parallels what the builder is wanting. I was trying for common ground on the startup without typing out what the builder is asking for.

Thank you for the NPC Startup Guide, it is very informative and answered my questions.
