New Pool Build NC

I have my pre construction meeting this Friday for my new pool build. Only thing left to decide are my depths. I keep going back and forth on how deep to take my deep end. We have 3 children, ages 8,5,1 and really want to maximize the space they can use (shallow end). But keeping in mind they won’t be little forever. Pool is free form shape with a sunshelf(12 feet wide,7.5 feet long). Pool itself is 40.5 feet long and 18-20 feet wide in different spots. I will attach some of the design photos, but my question is what are you guys thoughts on how to work my depths and slope? Thanks for the help, first time poster here! Look forward to reading all the good information on this site.

40.5 is pretty long for a home pool. You could do 3.5 feet then go to 7 feet without a sharp slope. For the littlest I suggest getting a design where they extend the stairs so there is a larger area for the little ones instead of just the tiny steps on the left of the shelf. The larger steps can also work as bench seating for adults who want to go in deeper than the sun shelf. My Niece and Nephew love playing on our sun shelf steps.

I believe I understand what you are saying, but if adding to the steps, wouldn’t that take even more of my 3.5 end away? I like the design of having steps all the way across the sun shelf but took it out to add more 3.5 room.

It is likely to be pretty negligible think 16-24 inches but this is all a personal call. Plus a large part of your shallow area is near the spa thanks to the shape. My advice would be to ask the pool builder to show that option and make a gut decision based on your family if you are considering it. Then go with what looks better to you. I don't think one idea is right or wrong. We probably did 4-6 design versions of the stairs and seating areas in our pool. Just so happened the kids love jumping up and down the stairs and adults like sitting on them.

True. Here is a better look at the design. I believe the steps are around 6 feet long right now but do come to a point.

Bob look what I did up for you! I pushed the bump out and added long steps right by the shelf! Best of both worlds. I added a bench over by the spa as well. Great for chatting and getting out of the pool in that area.

I would go 4' (no less than 3'6") to 7'. Those kids will love diving into the deep end and having a shallow end they can really play in. Look up Watermelon Ball! The best pool game ever!!

Now if you don't like my idea that is okay! I tend to throw things/idea up in the air and see what sticks!

I was thinking stairs along the whole sun shelf. Just shows how many options you have. The. Your youngest can jump up and down and adults can sit deeper along the shelf. Hopefully these ideas help. Also now I want a watermelon ball.
