So far they are moving along, and doing a great job (based on my unqualified opinion) they confirmed step depths, water depths, different widths and locations of everything and seem to be paying close attention to detail 😊

Thanks! Honestly it’s so nice even if it’s a little less dirt!

They are filling up a lot of the trenches this week and said hopefully next week level out and mark hardscape. I hope everything continues to move along the same pace now that we are here.

I took this last photo zoomed out, so it doesn’t look as “round” but it is a perfect circle!

I had them add an umbrella hole last minute because PB said we can always fill it with plaster, but it’s easier to put in now vs. jackhammer out later. We didn’t really want it, but she convinced me to reconsider. Thoughts on having umbrella?

There is a third step on the left side of the Baja shelf, it’s just not that visible in this photo. We also decided on 2 depths on the spa seats for some variety!

PB said to start watering in the morning, 2x a day for 30 minutes unless it’s really hot (I’m aiming for 3 anyways) but I guess the gunite crew said to start tonight so I gave it some water when I got home.

In my opinion, yes for umbrella holders. I had 2 installed and as we use the pool, one more would have worked really well.

Your pool design is absolutely stunning. I am glad you were there to watch the gunite. Decisions could be made b/c you were there. Good job taking photos, that is your documentation. Make sure you take the photos of the plumbing before they back fill the trenches.

May I ask what the dimensions are?

So the circle should be about 25' in diameter, the baja shelf 10" water depth, bench in front of the shelf, which is the second step, is 18", the spa is based on a 9' circle, but I think its about 6' x 9'. Let me know if there was a different dimension you are curious about!

Make sure you take the photos of the plumbing before they back fill the trenches.

I took a ton of photos before the Gunite so I can see where all the piping goes. I am ready for reference when needed!!

Hi there.
I was wondering about the dimensions of the baja shelf and the main pool area?
Thank you.

Definitely get the umbrella hole. Get some in the deck too. They don’t get in the way or look bad if you don’t use them but oh, so nice to have. We have 3 in the deck and one in the Baja shelf. We use the one in the shelf almost every time we use the pool during the day and then usually a deck one too. We move it around depending on where someone wants to sit. Or if no one is sitting on the deck we use it to shade our phones, speaker and water bottles. Think about where the sun is in relation to where your deck is and add them. You won’t be sorry.

Hi @Kathleen2252, The baja shelf is about 3.5 - 4 feet in width depending on the spot we measure from, and the length is about 18 feet. The pool, again depending on from where measured, was about 20 from where the steps meet the spa to the wall across, by about 21/22 from deep end to Baja shelf.

This week they started drawing out the hardscape, bbq, fire pit, planters etc. and they started laying some drains today. We also got pool equipment delivered! I know the salt is going to be late because its a unit they don't usually use, but not concerned as long as we get it eventually. When I got home the following equipment was in our garage for safe keeping. Please let me know ASAP if you see anything that is out of date or something better we should be requesting. Our contractor uses all Jandy:

Pro Series ePump Variable-Speed Pump w/o controller 2.7HP - VSSHP270AUT
Cartridge Pool Filter - CV580
Pool & Spa Heater 400K BTU Natural Gas - JXI400N
Sub Panel Power Center - 6614-LD
Aqualink RS-PS6 Pool and Spa Control System - RS-PS6
iAqualink 2.0 Network Interference Module - IQ20 - I see there is a 3.0 out, do we need the 3.0??
AquaPalm 18 Channel Aqualink Wireless Handheld Remote - AQWHR18

I have received my test kit, I got the TF-PRO with the cute new box :giggle:

Here are my tap/fill water results:
pH - 8.2+
TA - 310 (31 drops)
CH - 550 ppm (22 drops of R-0012 - How often should l be using the speed stir in between drops of the R-0012? Can I keep it spinning the whole time? After 3 drops of the R-0011L, the color was a light purple)

Anything else I should test ahead of time or buy in advance? We still probably have a month or so before we have water because we are doing most the hardscape first.

Yes. I have my speed on from start of test till end. It should stay on a minute which is ample time to complete each test. I also use a separate vial and magnetic stirrer for each text. Something you can add in the future. Suggest you test your fill water several more times as it is good practice for when you start. If you know a friend with a pool. Test their water so you can practice CYA.
I look forward to seeing the final project duct with water.

Great job getting one of the recommended test kits.

Try this for your TA test, R-009 when shipped has a static charge on it. What happens is the drops don’t fully form so they are smaller than they should be. Get a lightly damp tissue and wipe the dropper tip before each drop. Try that and post up your TA results again.
